Lost Lake Rd. Repairs
In 2025, the Greenhorn Firewise Community completed a project to repair a portion of one of our alternate emergency routes off of Greenhorn.

Your Donations at Work!
Thanks to all of you who contributed to our fundraising for this project in 2023 and 2024. The Lost Lake Road project was completed in July 2025, adding new drainage, grading, turnouts, and compacted gravel to an 800-ft. section that was particularly hard hit in winter.
Please remember that this is a private road and nonresidents should only use it in case of emergency—if Greenhorn Road is blocked and you need to exit the area to the south. Lost Lake Rd. is NOT a shortcut. It is mostly unpaved, narrow, and rough, and unsuitable for low-clearance vehicles and trailers/RVs.

Your best option when a fire is approaching is to LEAVE EARLY.

Why Lost Lake Road?
-
Our ways out are limited. If Greenhorn Rd. is blocked going west, there are very few options.
-
Both of our alternate routes (Jones Ridge Road leading north to Banner Lava Cap, and Lost Lake Road leading south to You Bet and Hwy 174) are private roads, narrow, with few turnouts, overgrown with vegetation in many areas, and largely unpaved.
-
Both roads take a beating in the winter. Low spots with poor drainage fill with water, and vehicle traffic turns these areas into deep ruts and holes that carry over to summer fire season. This can make the roads difficult or impassable for 2WD vehicles.
-
Lost Lake is shorter, with somewhat easier terrain, and in 2023 the GFC rcompleted a smaller project to improve drainage and clear overgrown vegetation along the shoulders in one section.
